Personal Address to Parents/Guardians of DHS

Dear Parents/Guardians:

I want to welcome you to what promises to be an exciting, fruitful, and consequential year. I invite you to become part of Discovery’s family by becoming involved in all that we have to offer. Your child’s current success is a testament to your dedication and daily sacrifice. Let’s work together to continue this pattern and trend of success and make a difference in his or her life this school year.

Our Parent Association, School Leadership Team, and Parent Coordinator all meet at least once a month to assess what is going well in Discovery and what improvements could make it go even better. You are cordially invited to join one or more of these teams, to visit our parent coordinator, and find out how you could have an impact on what is happening in your child’s school.

I would love to hear your ideas, suggestions, and concerns. Please make every effort to stay in touch with the school’s personnel—teachers, guidance counselors, deans, and administrations. Don’t wait till open-school night for good or bad news.

We know that for many of you, visiting the school may not be that easy—with the demands of family responsibilities, jobs, and so forth. You can still obtain valuable information about the school—like deadlines, homework assignments, Regents schedules, etc.—on this website: Discoveryhs.org. Of course, you can always check on your child’s academic progress by logging on to Snap Grades at snapgrades.net.

Our commitment to you is that we will work tirelessly to ensure that your child is reaching his or her fullest potential; and we will work indefatigably towards making sure that our relationship will facilitate this commitment.

If you have any questions, suggestions, or concerns, please feel free to contact Karina Sanchez, our parent coordinator, at ksanchez@schools.nyc.gov or 718-733-3872, extension 2545.

Best Regards,

Rolando Rivera
Principal
